Help for Authors
Start by logging into the dashboard. Login at the address that was sent to you in a separate email or login at the very bottom on the right.
Click on the link on the left that says users and click on the profile link. You can create your own profile that will show up on each article you write. Your profile should just be a few sentences about you. For example:
Julie Onofrio, LMP 23 years experience as a massage therapist and 11 years online helping massage therapists. Visit my website for more information.
You can add a link to your website and promote any massage related services. If you aren’t already, you might want to offer your services as a mentor to local massage therapists and also online – because that is what you are doing by writing for this site! Create a link by selecting text and then clicking on the little link bar on the bar above. A new window will open where you just paste your website address where you want people to go. Add open in new window in the second part of that small box and click insert.
This is a Wordpress blog and it works basically like a word processor. The bar between the title area and the post can be expanded. For the most part stay on the “Visual” tab on the top right. You can use the HTML tab for inserting special codes but I don’t think you will need it for the most part.
Create a post for your author profile. On the left column click on post- add new and a box will come up in the middle. This is where you add your information. Create a title using your name and location if you want. Then write some information about yourself. Just write like you would be talking to someone .
Try to address some of these questions - why did you become a massage therapist, how did you start, what were your fears when you started, what are your thoughts and fears now that you deal with on a daily basis, what is your business plan, who are your mentors, what is your vision for your massage business, where are you currently and what are you doing to achieve that vision… well that should be enough for starters.
Click the box for Author Profile in the right hand column and click publish or you can also click save draft and it will be saved for you to work on later.
Create your first article. Write from your experiences and things you have put into practice. You can take a look at some of the posts I have written. Here are some ideas for articles:
- How did you find office space and negotiate your lease?
- How did you create a business plan?
- How do you Keep yourself motivated?
- How did you create your business cards?
- How did you create a brochure or flyer?
- How did you create a website?
- How did you Get over the fear of promoting yourself or how are you doing that?
- What Marketing projects have you done that failed or that you hated doing?
- What things have worked the best?
- How did you learn to talk to clients?
- What do you say to clients in various situations? To explain how massage works, to explain why massage is needed, to explain what you are doing or what massage means to you.
- How do you talk to clients to promote yourself?
- What are your favorite books and marketing sites/resources?
You can use affiliate links to promote your products or things like books on amazon.com (more on that later.)
Just start with one article at a time. It isn’t about being a perfect writer but finding your true voice.
It is really important to be sharing your experiences and provide examples for other massage therapists. In doing so I believe that it can help take the massage profession farther. What you are doing is really mentoring others through sharing what you know. Massage therapists will learn to be more successful and move farther in their careers with good leaders and examples.
Thank you for sharing your stories and information.
As you write more articles it will help build traffic to this site. Once it is getting a few hundred visitors a day and has about 20 authors I will implement a subscription service and will teach you how to promote it and make money through special links in your profiles. So in general, the more you write and the more you promote this site, the more you can make! More details coming soon!
